Vosloorus- Wolf informal settlement

Hosting a Talent Show to Empower Dancers and Communities in Need

The power of dance is undeniable. It can transcend language and cultural barriers, and it can bring people together in a way that few other things can’t. However, not everyone has access to the resources and opportunities needed to develop their skills and share their talents with the world. That's why Trot Your Globe, along with its ambassadors, recently hosted a talent show in an area that is often overlooked and underserved.

The event was held at the Wolf community, an informal settlement where many of the locals do not have access to electricity, in Vosloorus which is south of Johannesburg in Boksburg. The goal was to provide an opportunity for dancers and other performers to showcase their talents while also raising awareness and support for the community. The event was a huge success, with over 100 food parcels and items of clothing donated to the Wolf community.

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, Trot Your Globe was also able to provide a power generator for the community, ensuring that more people have access to electricity. We also sponsored prizes for all the competitors, turning the event into a talent showcase rather than just a dance competition. Our hope was to provide a platform for individuals to showcase their talents, no matter their area of expertise.

The winner of the talent showcase was Nonhlanhla, a 26-year-old HR student who impressed the judges with her African Print Jewellery. She was awarded mentorship and assistance to help her sell her jewellery, and we also sponsored a sewing machine worth R1000 to assist her with creating more of her fabric jewellery.

Overall, the talent show was a powerful reminder of the importance of giving back to our communities and empowering individuals to pursue their passions. We are proud to have been able to make a difference in the lives of the Wolf community and provide a platform for talented individuals to showcase their skills. We hope that this event will inspire others to use their talents and resources to uplift those in need.
