International Women’s Day

International Women's Day is a day that Trot Your Globe (Pty) Ltd takes seriously. It's a day that reminds us of the power of women and the strides that they have made towards equality. The annual event, which is celebrated globally on March 8th, is the first on our social responsibility calendar, and it sets the tone for the year.

This year's theme was 'Each For Equal', which reminds us of the responsibility that each individual has for their actions. We challenged everyone to look in the mirror and hold themselves accountable for perpetuating narratives that have created an unjust society. Our two-hour dance marathon was a stand against stereotypes and a gender-biased society.

In the spirit of broadening perceptions and celebrating the achievements of women, we reflected on Women's Health's article about Trot Your Globe and the women who made it happen. Toka Lintsa, our company director, made history at Cape Town's 2020 Fit Night Out as the instructor whose class burnt the most calories through our dance-fitness program.

This year, we co-instructed the event with Julian Moreaux, an instructor who relocated to South Africa from the US. He is certified in Kukuwa African Dance and is a performing dancer, and with Sithembele Baca's expressive form of dance, this year brought an incredible energy to this day.

As part of our social responsibility initiatives, we aim to mobilize pride in our heritage, create a sense of awareness around social issues, and use dance- fitness as a tool to equip our participants with mental health. We are proud to be making a difference in our communities, and we thank everyone who participated in this year's International Women's Day event.
